Will Wall Street require Python?

Making the case for the SEC mandate that “most ABS issuers file a computer program that gives effect to the flow of funds, or ‘waterfall,’ provisions of the transaction [and that] the computer program be filed on EDGAR in the form of downloadable source code in Python.”

Imagine a world with government-backed usage of Python in the financial industry. There will be costs, sure, but think of the gains. This could effectively break the wall blocking Python’s acceptance in the banking industry, still stuck at Java 1.5 (if they’re lucky).
