Mulatto, and other words which hurt

The CBC has an interesting article about the use of the word mulatto in the media. The article, which goes on to tackle other words with shady and not-so-shady pasts, is in response to a letter the CBC received after its use of mulatto in covering the reburial of Alexandre Dumas, who had a mixed ethnic background. I knew of the background of the word Slavic, but the etymology of the word hysteria was unknown to me, although obvious now considering the root of that word.
