The CBC has an interesting article about the use of the word
mulatto in the media. The article, which goes on to tackle other words with shady and not-so-shady pasts, is in response to a letter the CBC received after its use of
mulatto in covering the reburial of Alexandre Dumas, who had a mixed ethnic background. I knew of the background of the word
Slavic, but the etymology of the word
hysteria was unknown to me, although obvious now considering the root of that word.
